Peter Kraker from Know-Center’s Social Computing Team has presented a paper at the „2015 Science and Technology Indicators“ (STI2015) conference.

The 2015 Science and Technology Indicators  conference, organized under the auspices of the European Network of Indicator Designers, was hosted by the Università della Svizzera italiana and took place from September 2 – 4, 2015 in Lugano. The conference has a specific focus on the role of organizations in the research system.

A Know-Center paper with the title “Research Data Explored II : the Anatomy and Reception of figshare” was presented by Peter Kraker at STI 2015. It is a follow-up paper on the award-winning paper published at ISSI 2015 conference, in a series of bibliometric studies of research data. The authors present an analysis of figshare, one of the largest multidisciplinary repositories for research materials to date. By analysing the structure of items archived in figshare, their usage, and their reception in two altmetrics sources (PlumX and ImpactStory), they determined that figshare acts as a platform for newly published research materials, and as an archive for PLOS. Generally, research data published in 2014 were most popular across social media services.
