Dr. Vedran Sabol, Themenfeldleiter im Bereich Knowledge Visualization am Know-Center, wird am 9. und 10. April 2013 die Ergebnisse vom ersten Jahr des EU-Projektes “CODE” auf dem European Data Forum (EDF) 2013 in Dublin präsentieren. Das EDF ist der jährliche Treffpunkt für Vertreter aus der Industrie, Wissenschaftler und Community-Organisatoren, bei dem über die Herausforderungen und Möglichkeiten von Big Data in Europa diskutiert wird.
Dr. Vedran Sabol, division manager of the Knowledge Visualization Research Group at the Know-Center, will present the results from the EU-funded project “CODE”’s first year of research at the European Data Forum (EDF) 2013 in Dublin. The EDF is the annual forum for data practitioners from industry, research, the public-sector and the community, where they discuss the opportunities and challenges of the emerging Big Data Economy in Europe.
Auf dem European Data Forum (EDF) treffen sich jährlich Vertreter aus der Industrie, Wissenschaftler und Community-Organisatoren und erörtern Herausforderungen und Möglichkeiten von Big Data in Europa. Das EDF 2013 findet dieses Jahr vom 9. bis 10. April in Dublin, Irland, statt und umfasst Vorträge und Networking-Gespräche über eine breitgefächerte Themenauswahl rund um die wachsende Big Data Economy in Europa.
Dr. Vedran Sabol, Themenfeldleiter im Bereich Knowledge Visualization am Know-Center, wird die Ergebnisse vom ersten Jahr des EU-Forschungsprojektes „CODE“ („Commercially Empowered Linked Open Data Ecosystems in Research“) präsentieren, das im Mai 2012 gestartet wurde. Herr Sabol wird ausgewählte Prototypen zeigen, die die Extraktion, Annotation und Analyse von Informationen aus Forschungspublikationen unterstützen. Der Schwerpunkt seiner Präsentation liegt auf der Demonstration leicht bedienbarer Werkzeuge zum Abfragen und visuellen Analysieren wissenschaftlicher Informationen, die in semantischen Wissensbasen gespeichert sind. Dr. Sabol zeigt sich erwartungsvoll gegenüber dem EDF 2013: „Ich erwarte mir, vor allem über die neuesten Forschungsergebnisse im Bereich Big Data zu erfahren, aber auch kommerzielle Produkte live erleben zu dürfen. Ich freue mich auf die Möglichkeit, Kontakte für künftige Forschungskooperationen in den Bereichen Big Data und Linked Data zu knüpfen.“
Das CODE-Projekt verfolgt das Ziel, einen Marktplatz für Forschungsdaten aufzubauen und auf Basis der bekannten Publikationsplattform Mendeley (www.mendeley.com) zu etablieren. Ausganspunkt der Forschung sind die vom Know-Center entwickelten, computerlinguistischen und maschinellen Lernverfahren. Diese ermöglichen, dass Fakten aus über 40 Millionen Forschungspublikationen extrahiert, visualisiert und mit bestehendem Wissen im World Wide Web verknüpft werden. Dies soll WissenschafterInnen weltweit in die Lage versetzen, neue Erkenntnisse zu gewinnen und diese mit KollegInnen zu teilen. Das Projekt wird von der EU im 7. Every year data practitioners from industry, research, the public-sector and the community meet at the European Data Forum (EDF) to discuss the opportunities and challenges of the emerging Big Data Economy in Europe. This year EDF 2013 will take place on April 9-10 in Dublin Ireland, and will be comprised of keynote speeches from global experts in the field and a series of submitted talks, as well as a trends showcase and live networking sessions.
Dr. Vedran Sabol, division manager of the Knowledge Visualization Research Group at the Know-Center, will present the results of the first year of research of the EU-funded project “CODE” (“Commercially Empowered Linked Open Data Ecosystems in Research”), which began in May 2012. Dr. Sabol will show selected prototypes supporting the extraction, annotation and analysis of information taken from research paper databases.
The focus of his presentation will be on demonstrating easy-to-use tool chains for querying and visually analyzing scientific information, which is saved in semantic knowledge bases. Dr. Sabol is full of expectations for EDF 2013: “I expect to especially see the latest research results in the field of Big Data, but also to experience live commercial products which are now on the market. I look forward to establish contacts for future research cooperation in the fields of Big Data and Linked Data.”
The CODE Project aims to build up and establish a market place for research data on the basis of the well-known publication platform Mendeley (www.mendeley.com). The research starting points are the computer linguistic and machine learning techniques developed by the Know-Center. These enable the extraction and visualization of facts from over 40 million research publications, and link them with existing knowledge in the World Wide Web. This should allow scientists from all over the world to acquire new knowledge and share it with their colleagues.
