Your tasks

  • Participation in the research the Christian-Doppler (CD) Laboratory for Sustainable Product Management in a Circular Economy and the Know-Center GmbH
  • More specifically, the research of the PhD candidate is characterized by:
    • Researching how probabilistic machine learning can be used to protect private/confidential data in digital product passports (DPPs) and life cycle assessments
    • Covering approaches such as statistical privacy, fairness, representation learning, and model sharing (as opposed to data sharing) to ensure privacy and confidentiality and thus complement the existing literature on cryptographic approaches such as multi-party computation and homomorphic encryption
    • Specialization in sustainability management and assessment
    • Use-case development for DPPs
  • Conducting a dissertation as part of the research of the CD Laboratory Prof. Baumgartner (circular.uni-graz.at) and the Know-Center (Priv.-Doz. Dr. Bernhard Geiger (https://www.know-center.at/en/)
  • Participation in conferences, publications in peer-reviewed journals and other media of knowledge transfer
  • Participation in organizational and administrative tasks
  • Continuing education in research skills

 

Your profile

  • Diploma or Master’s Degree
    • in informatics (e.g., business informatics, computer science, computer engineering, data science etc.) or computational social systems with proficiency or high interest in sustainability management and assessment
    • in sustainability sciences (e.g., environmental systems sciences, sustainable development, industrial ecology, circular economy) or social sciences (e.g., business administration, economics, …) with a strong affinity for data science and machine learning
  • High commitment and motivation for scientific work and the completion of a doctoral degree
  • Proficiency in qualitative and/or quantitative research methods
  • Programming skills (e.g., Python, …)
  • Very good written and spoken English skills
  • Structured and goal-oriented thinking
  • Self-initiative and reliability as well as organizational, cooperation and team skills
  • Very good communication skills
  • Motivation to work in international and interdisciplinary teams
  • Responsible way of working, resilience, and problem-solving ability
  • Publication experience is beneficial

Classification & Salary

Salary scheme of the University Collective Agreement (“Universitäten-KV”): B1 (minimum salary 3.277,30 € (for 40 hours/week)) & Annual special payments (Christmas and vacation payments) in the amount of two monthly salaries
