As part of a large research project funded by FFG, we offer 1 PhD position on a very innovative research topic:

Your Tasks:

This PhD topic investigates the realization of fairness- and sequence-aware data analytics methods and recommender systems. Thus, based on the digital traces of interactions recorded in different environments (e.g.,learning portals, multimedia environments such as music streaming services and immersive spaces created by digital twins). You will study and model temporal and contextual dependencies between these interactions to develop novel algorithms for next-interaction recommendations and for recommendations of interaction-sequences. Additionally, principles of trustworthy AI with a focus on fairness and biases will be investigated to ensure unbiased and fair analytics and recommendations.

The dissertation work will be carried out in the recently established Fair-AI research area led by Dr. Dominik Kowald, Dr. Emanuel Lacic, and Dr. Simone Kopeinik (formally known as Social Computing). Additionally, the dissertation will be embedded and supervised at the Doctoral School of Computer Science at the Graz University of Technology.

Your Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in Computer Science, Information and Computer Engineering, Mathematics, or similar
  • Good knowledge of machine learning and data analytics, knowledge in recommender systems is a plus
  • Experience and practical proficiency with programming languages and tools (e.g., Python, Git)
  • Analytical thinking as well as independent and structured work
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills
  • Very good knowledge of English, both spoken and written

We are required by law to specify the minimum gross salary, which is according to the university salary scheme with a master’s degree for a full-time position 3,058.60 Euro gross per month (14 times per year).
